2009 Michael Cardin Scholarship Winners
The Michael Cardin Scholarship Fund was established in honor of Michael Cardin in memory of his extraordinary volunteerism and his support in the service of children with special needs. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to students in non-public schools throughout the state of Maryland.
Each year, MANSEF (Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities) award deserving students attending non-public schools throughout the state of Maryland. This year, 29 individuals were awarded scholarships out of a record 71 applications were received by the Michael Cardin Scholarship Committee. Four of those students attend High Road Schools. Our High Road School Student Winners along with the other scholarship recipients were honored at the MANSEF Annual Awards Luncheon on June 1, 2009.
Terrence (High Road School – La Plata) has received a scholarship to attend the College of Southern Maryland. Terrence has demonstrated a commitment to live up to his potential by consistently earning good grades, displaying peer leadership and modeling good decision making and judgment for his fellow students. Terrence’s ultimate goal is to become a lawyer. Enrolling at the College of Southern Maryland is the perfect start.
Katia (High Road School – La Plata) was awarded s scholarship to attend College of Southern Maryland Camps in Photography and Volleyball. Throughout her time at High Road School of Southern Maryland, she has shown great growth and maturity. Her dedication and work ethic have allowed her to achieve the goals she sets for herself. When describing Katia, one staff member wrote, “…you won’t find a more earnest, loyal and hard-working person.” Katia is eagerly awaiting her chance to further explore photography and the team sport of Volleyball.
Deondra (High Road School – Beltsville) was granted a scholarship to attend Baltimore Fitness and Tennis Camp this summer. Deondra has demonstrated a commitment to tennis throughout his High School Career. While attending High Road Schools, Deondra has also played for his public High School Tennis Teams. Deondra has shown tremendous potential on and off the tennis court. Tennis has help Deondra mature as a student and a young man. Attending this tennis camp this summer will only enhance Deondra’s tennis skill and growth.
Dylan (High Road School – Baltimore County) was awarded a scholarship to attend River Valley Ranch Camp this summer. Dylan has embodied the High Road School spirit and demonstrated amazing committed and growth throughout high school. Dylan has perfect attendance this academic school year which speaks volumes to the type of individual that he is.
We are extremely proud of all four of our winners and wish them the best of luck in the programs that they will be attending this summer and into the fall.
