Welcome to High Road Middle School of Washington, DC. Nestled in the southwest quadrant of the city, just miles from the water front area and a stones throw away from the new Washington Nationals Baseball stadium, High Road Middle School opened its doors in August of 2006.

From its inception the mission was to continue to bring the best of what we have to offer to the middle school special needs population, but in another location. Replicating the success of our sister middle school program, (High Road Middle Academy, Kansas Avenue, NE) we have come a long way from where we first began. “Building Student Confidence and Competence through Personalized Academic Interventions continues to be the driving force behind our mission. This concept supports our theory that “we build our programs to fit the student, and not the other way around". Also paramount to the mission of the school is that “we never give up on a child”.

Our administrative and school staff and bring an array of experience in the areas of education, social services, recreation, child and family development, counseling and many others. Today one can easily witness as our students work to improve in all social, academic and behavioral domains. In addition to increasing student learning, one of our main goals at High Road Schools is to promote positive behaviors in our students.

Our schools share the philosophy that by promoting positive behaviors students will increase both academic learning potential and will also learn valuable skills to become positive and successful members of our societies.

Wellness Does the Body Good

On May 20th, 2011 High Road Middle School staff along with 9th grade Learning Center staff were treated to the wellness services of one your parents Ms. Lee Jones of Lady L Wellness Services. Ms. Jones was able to help relieve the stress of your teachers, social workers and related service providers with the use relaxation techniques, massages and scented candles and soothing music.  As you know the school year can be a challenge but for a few moments we were able to escape to peace.

High Road Learning Center (ED) is in its second year under the direction of the Senior Director Mr. Dean Weeks and Ms. Stephanie James. Ms. James is the new Associate Director who supervises the program. The Learning Center is made up of 9th graders. This one-year program is used to help middle school student’s transition into high school.  Throughout the year, the students are introduced to Carnegie Units, transitioning from class to class as well as learning different transitions services i.e. community service, applying for jobs, preparing for higher education.

Our transition coordinator, Mr. Eric Morgan has started off with a great year. This year he is introducing Team Works Service Initiative through Greater DC Cares. The Student Service Team Initiative brings together students to participate in a variety of service projects and educational events over the course of a semester (spring, summer or fall). By engaging youth in this type of service learning program, we hope to facilitate and inspire a lifelong commitment to community service, increase the awareness of social issues in the community, and empower students to become advocates within the democratic process all while making a difference in the community.  Students will participate in comprehensive community service projects that involve 3 to 5 community service projects.  In addition there will be an education workshop preceding the volunteer work.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

High Road School welcomes you back from the summer and we hoped you had a wonderful summer and are ready for another exciting school year. This year High Road has adopted the District of Columbia’s Public School Dress Code/Uniform rulemaking that was enacted on March 5, 2009 by the City Council approval and Mayor’s order.

We are excited to require the dress code policy and maintain compliance the local school district. The Student Government Associations at our schools have also strongly supported this transition.

Please request a student shirt order forms, which require your completion, payment and submission to us as soon as possible. All students are required to wear the High Road for short sleeve or long sleeved and khaki bottoms to school on a daily basis.

Parents, Guardians thank you for the continued support and we look forward to another great school year!
